Version 1.3.0: ChatGPT fan-out queries are back

On 14 September 2026 ChatGPT stopped storing the text of its web searches in the saved conversation. The sources it fetched and cited were still there, so the panel kept showing sources while the Fan-out queries card went to zero. Version 1.3.0 fixes this. Google has approved it, and Chrome updates installed copies automatically.
What changed under the hood:
- ChatGPT now sends the fan-out queries only inside the live answer stream, then strips them from the stored conversation. Only Fan Out now reads the stream as the answer arrives and keeps the query text from there.
- chatgpt.com replaces the browser's fetch function after the page loads, which silently removed the extension's capture hook. The hook is now installed in a way that stays in place when the page swaps fetch.
- A request that started while another was still in flight could skip capture entirely. The hook now handles overlapping requests.
- If ChatGPT cut a stream short, the extension used to discard everything it had received. It now keeps the partial stream, so the queries survive an interrupted answer.
- Queries captured from the stream are protected from being overwritten when the extension later re-reads the stored conversation, which has none.
- Claude and Grok were unaffected. All three engines were re-tested on live conversations before release.
Chrome applies the update in the background. To get it right away, open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode and click Update. If you loaded the extension unpacked from source, pull the latest code, rebuild and reload it. Nothing about the privacy model changed: still no servers, no accounts, no analytics inside the extension.

Does it slow down ChatGPT?
No. Only Fan Out reads the network responses your browser already receives. It does not add its own requests to a normal turn.
Why is a source fetched but not cited?
An assistant's search step often retrieves more pages than the final answer references. Only Fan Out shows the full set the assistant fetched next to the smaller set it cited, so you can see the gap between the two.
Does OnlyFans have anything to do with this?
No. The name is a play on "fan-out," the term for how an AI answer splits one question into many searches.

Which AI assistants does Only Fan Out support?

What is the difference between a fetched source and a cited source?
A fetched source is a page a search step retrieved. A cited source is one of those pages the final answer actually references. The fetched set is usually larger than the cited set.

Yes. Add a brand or domain to the watchlist and Only Fan Out highlights every mention across queries, fetched sources, cited sources and answers.
Can I export the data?
